Deacons–as well as elders, pastors, and lay members–have an opportunity to join the greater community and understand our part in dismantling unintentional bias. This will be the focus of the Summit on Race and Inclusion that will take place on Wednesday,May 21, 8am – 4:30pm. The Summit will be held at Dimnent Chapel of Hope College and is sponsored by Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance. $45 includes lunch and refreshments. Preregistration is required! (There will not be any on-site registration due to the projected number of participants) Registration ends on May 14! You can register online by clicking on the following image:
The following statement regarding the Summit is from The Diversity Team of Classis Holland of the Christian Reformed Church:
Although neither the sponsor organization nor the Summit itself is specifically faith-based, there will be breakout sessions that address matters related to the faith community. The benefits of racial inclusion and the struggle against bias are real in everyone’s experience. There’s much value in our churches joining with the greater community in this opportunity to be informed and engaged around these matters. Perhaps your church would also consider sending some congregational leaders to participate and report back to your council or congregation on insights from the day.
