The Holland Deacons’ Conference is pleased to announce the official launch of the newly renamed Brothers & Sisters Homes (B&SH), HDC's ministry serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities/differences (IDD). Although the name is new, HDC's ministry with adults with IDD has been around for nearly 40 years. However, in order to more effectively raise awareness about and support for this vitally important ministry, we recognized it was time for it to have its own identity apart from (but still part of) HDC.
So, what exactly is Brothers & Sisters Homes and why does it do what it does? Our recently developed vision statement explains it like this:
Brothers & Sisters Homes aim to cultivate a distinctly supportive Christian environment where residents can thrive and grow as individuals while establishing meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with housemates, neighbors, and the broader community. All are members of Christ's body with God-given gifts and we will support and encourage each resident to develop and use their God-given gifts and abilities in loving service to God and others.
Along with the new name and vision statement comes a brand new website, found at www.brothersandsistershomes.org. Here, we invite you to read all about our residents and their lives within our five adult homes in Holland. Additionally, it also allows us to collect online job and resident applications, along with direct donations to help fund and sustain this important ministry.
We at HDC are passionate about and highly committed to the ministry of Brothers & Sisters Homes, our residents, and the right of every child of God to have the opportunity to participate fully in all aspect of life, using their God-given gifts and abilities in loving service to God and others.
